When Christien Meindertsma looks at an object, she sees not just a thing, but a story. Her curiosity about the circumstances of thing's making and her belief in the importance of our understanding this has lead to a design career based on immersive research into, and forensic documentation of, materials and processes.
Asked to reflect on the manufacture of Really’s Solid Textile Board
and its moves towards circularity, Meindertsma went about the project in usual detective-like fashion, visiting industrial laundries and researching non-woven technology. She distilled the story of Really to an elegant and technically accurate vignette of how a pile of tea towels, sheets and dishcloths are transformed into a single sample of Solid Textile Board.
